Five-and-Dime *thing 5*

Before I read the articles and watched the videos on Web 2.0 I didn't really know what it was about. I honestly thought it was more complicated than what it actually is. Web 2.0 is the "read/write web" as describe in What is Web 2.0 where they also describe Web 1.0 as "the read only web". Honestly, before even opening this assignment, I had no idea that there was a Web 1.0 and 2.0. I guess I haven't really seen the drastic change in the internet or really thought it was such a change; I assumed that it was just a normal progression in sites and web pages. Web 2.0 gives people like you and me the chance to create our own things on the internet just as we are doing right here with blogs. We also have the availability to use other peoples work and/or move things from one thing to another. It also enables us, as educators, to collaborate with other teachers and use material that wouldn't have been available in Web 1.0.

Schools have also gone through this transition; instead of using paper everything and textbooks, teachers and students are now using such things as power points and online textbooks to teach and learn. Teachers are using blogs to communicate with their students and parents. Its an easier and more accessible form of communication. Since technology changes constantly, teachers should always be on top of their game when it comes to the newest and best resource. Kids usually come into school, especially upper grades, knowing a lot about technology already so we need to be able to stay ahead so they can stay on track.

Number 4 *thing 4*

Since this whole blog thing is new to me, the commenting aspect is new too. After reading the posts about commenting I began to understand the whole reasoning for posting blogs. You post blogs in order to let out how you feel and most of the time want comments on whatever it is you're saying. Once someone comments on your blog or vice versa, you establish a communication and slowly start interacting with a community. In one of the posts for commenting, they discussed how it isn't necessary to comment with only one word responses  or short little statements. You typically need to write something that is meaningful towards the author or post whether you are agreeing or disagreeing.
The People that I've chose to follow within our group are wordsofwilson bloggeriley Hallaback cottencandy and thedean. All of these people have very interesting points and are all very creative and I enjoy looking at their blogs that they update with each thing. The two people outside of our group that I will be following are cheryl and amber.duncan . These 2 I know from other classes and enjoy seeing what they have to say about their experiences.

*Third times a charm* (thing 3)

Using my blog in my teacher education program can benefit me by letting me communicate with other future teachers and also get other ideas and comments from them. Being a teacher and using a blog could expand my communication with parents and even students. It can allow for parents to read about what's going on in the classroom and upcoming dates. Having a blog could establish a great form of communication that all teachers should have with their student's parents. Using a blog will also let me transfer information with fellow teachers either within the same school and school system or even in different areas.

*Rounding 2nd* (thing 2)

Creating my blog and my avatar was an adventure within itself. I, of course, didn't know where to begin and kept having to go back and look at everything and change it back and forth. It was crazy. But then I acquired help from a fellow peer and made my way to the blog you're viewing now! My blog name is my middle and last name within the saying "making it okay": Kaye King. I tried to be somewhat creative but I see that I'm no where close to where some people are. My avatar looks nothing like me! The hair, clothing, accessories, and setting is all about me but the avatar as a whole is silly! I have my avatar wearing jeans and a t-shirt because that is the clothing that I'm most comfortable in and that I'm typically wearing. She is also holding a Starbucks cup because I love coffee. The setting is at a sporting event. I have been involved in sports my whole life; volleyball and softball in high school and have picked up tennis and golf since then. I also enjoy attending all types of sporting events especially football games. So I tried my best to get my avatar to look like me but I think I could have done a better job.

*1 small step* (thing 1)

The 7 1/2 Learning Habits of Highly Successful Lifelong Learning video gave a lot of insight to how I should think of everyday activities and how to future my knowledge in everyday life. The habit that is most difficult for me to practice is Habit 3: View Problems as Challenges. On a daily basis, I usually consider problem that I'm faced with as a crisis instead of just thinking through the situation and seeing the good that could come from it. My day and life all together would be way less stressful if I would just sit back and let things happen instead of worrying about the problem. The Habit that I feel is the easiest for me to practice is 7 1/2: Play! I work at a daycare and our shirts say it all: "I get paid to play at Pleasant View Daycare!". It is the reason I love going to work; I love playing with kids and being a part of their everyday life.

I'm looking forward to learning how to use all the different things with Web 2.0. Being able to use technology to make tasks easier or furthering your knowledge on something is always a good thing. Creating my blog was totally new for me. I didn't know where to begin. It took me a little while to figure out where everything goes and how it works but its almost starting to click. Every time I get on here I figure out something new, which is good. Maybe after my 23rd thing, I will have it all figured out!
